Mindfulness Mondays: "In Memory" of Memorial Day

May flowers blooming in the desert.

Memorial Day was established in 1868 as "decoration day"to set aside a special time to decorate the graves of soldiers killed in war. The original date was proposed as May 30th, because it was believed that flowers would be in bloom throughout the nation.

It became a national holiday in 1971 and is recognized on the last Monday in May. Many people continue the tradition of cemetary visits to decorate the graves of loved ones on Memorial Day.

This week I will spend time in sacred silence in memory of those who have died.
