Monday Mindfulness: Respect yourself

That's little me with some wonderful
Alpha Chi Omegas.
Next time I'm wearing heels!
Being in a good relationship with yourself has many benefits- it is the building block for your relationship with others. There is no substitute for reflection and time alone to help you develop "good guts." If you tune in regularly your guts will let you know when a relationship needs repair.

Sunday I had the privilege of speaking to the University of Oklahoma Alpha Chi Omega sorority as part of their healthy relationships week.  My wish is that they received the message that you must be in a respectful relationship with yourself to recognize when you are in a disrespectful relationship with others.

Boomer Sooner!

I can be respectful to myself in my relationship with others.

Mindfulness Monday: Team Spirit

Nike Store Window January 2015
Maybe today you are still reflecting on that last few moments of the game, or Katy Perry's mechanical lion, or a special ad that made you laugh or cry.

Why not take some time this week to consider the teams in your life.  How many "teams" are you on? Do you play the same position?
How's your spirit?

Sometimes a reflection can re-energize your motivation.  A lagging team spirit may highlight when you need to pass the ball to someone else.

I will reflect on the teams in my life.

Mindfulness Mondays: Imagine

Chalk Farm Gallery/Santa Fe 2012
The year ahead is an open calendar of possibilities.  This week build some time into your day to consider your personal, professional, and relational lifestyle.

Make room in your imagination to visualize yourself entering 2015.

  • What should you hold on to in the New Year?
  • What do you need to release ?
  • What would you like to cultivate in 2015?

I will take time this week to imagine a new year of possibilities.

Mindfulness Mondays: Awareness

Transitions are part of life and each of us has a multitude of internal associations to change.   A true mindfulness practice is based on awareness of our interior and exterior world without judgement.

This week be intentionally aware of the seasonal changes and notice the thoughts and feelings that come to your mind.

THIS WEEK I WILL PRACTICE AWARENESS.

Mindfulness Mondays: Beginnings

The sculpture in this picture is one of  three consecutive installations tucked into building corners along Marcy street in Santa Fe.  The first is a perfect round shape.  The second (depicted here) shows an opening- like an egg or a seed cracking.  The final sculpture reveals another perfect round shape within the shell that has cracked open.

We are forever given the opportunity for a new beginning.  It brings me hope in my ability to change and grow.

I CAN ALWAYS BEGIN AGAIN.

Mindfulness Mondays: Marking your journey

A cairn is a pile of stones that marks a place. It is peaceful to occasionally stop and rest on a long hike and stack stones on top of stones. A cairn marks "I was here"  and  provides a reference on the journey.

Where are you in your life journey?  Take a moment to reflect on the challenging terrain that has brought you to this point.  What strengths have you earned along the way?  Can you have gratitude in this moment for how far you have traveled?

Take a moment to reflect on your cairn.

I can appreciate my place in life's journey.

Mindfulness Mondays: Dream Big

Lizard on Bike Seat/ Lake Tenkiller 2014
Affirmations are useful in quieting negative mind clutter.

Allow your mind to explore all the possibilities of Daring Greatly: At home, at work, and in balancing your schedule to reflect your true intentions.

Use this affirmation to pave the way for new ideas.

I CAN DREAM BIG THIS WEEK

MINDFULNESS MONDAY: Walk Your Walk

"Asia Trail" National Zoo 2014
Sometimes obstacles force us to examine if we really want "it" badly enough . . .  or signal that it is time to move in a different direction.

Reflect this week about the obstacles- are they coming from within or outside of yourself?

I can choose the path that I walk.
