Mindfulness Mondays: Weather Stress

Lake Tenkiller 2015
After years of drought in the Midwest we are now dealing with the pendulum swing of flooding. Although we have no control over the weather, we can influence our response to weather related stress.

We can manage ourselves:
 Prepare
 Educate (weather safety)
 Accept

We can extend support to others:
Donate money
Donate time (clean up and support)
Shop local (farms and businesses)

This week I will manage my response to stress.

Mindfulness Mondays: Moment to Moment

Lake Tenkiller shoreline 2015
In Oklahoma we are experiencing a "false Spring."Warmer weather sneaks into parts of our week and then abruptly returns to seasonal temps.

Enjoy the best of both seasons by practicing moment to moment mindfulness.

When the sun is shining step outside and feel it on your face. Welcome a warm breeze when you walk out to the mailbox.

On chilly days, embrace a wooly blanket. Heat up some cocoa and be grateful for indoor time.

The present moment is all that we have. Don't lose this moment to worrying about how long it will last or wishing it were different.

This week I will honor moment to moment mindfulness.

Mindfulness Mondays: Dream

h/t Google Images Martin Luther King, Jr. /Seattle Times
All change begins with a dream.

Be still and attend to your motivation for change- your vision of "better."  It all starts with you.

Imagine change in your life, family, community, or culture.

This week honor your dreams. Give yourself permission to imagine positive change.

I can begin with a dream.

Mindfulness Mondays: One Thing At A Time

Happy Thanksgiving from Suki!
"I like mindfulness because it tells my brain to think about one thing at a time instead of . . . like...500 things!"
                                          First Grader

We conclude this month of gratitude with the intention of telling our brain to focus on one thing at a time.

Wishing you a calm mind, a still body, and a peaceful gathering at Thanksgiving from our house to yours.

This week I will focus on one thing at a time.

Mindfulness Monday: Vote!

Apathy is not resilient.

Despite the negative campaigning there are still a brave few who are daring to run for political office. Consider the sacrifices made by our ancestors to provide a system of election, the suffragists who courageously advocated for the right to vote by all peoples. Reflect on our military who have risked everything to protect our freedoms.

Take these intentions to your local polling places this week.  Your vote counts towards making meaningful change.

This week I will make a conscious choice with my vote.

Mindfulness Monday:Live In the Moment

h/t Nicole Jacob's Blog
Most of us have the technology available at any moment to document daily life.  But what are we missing by preserving the image?

Our camera can quickly become a filter for our experiences. We stop living in the moment and making the memory while we capture the image. Instead of feeling relaxation, joy, gratitude, sorrow, we are stirred with an urgency to take a picture and share it with others. We step away.

Pause.  Become aware of this temptation.

I WILL LIVE IN THE MOMENT AND LINGER IN THE BEAUTY OF MY EXPERIENCES THIS WEEK.

Mindfulness Mondays: Perspective

I found this sculpture while walking to the plaza in Santa Fe, NM. The multitude of angles surrounding the piece reminded me of the role of perspective in life. Viewing the sculpture from above, to the side, or through the center each offers a legitimate but different perspective on the experience.   Our approach to obstacles in our life in a similar way can be changed by considering the problem from a new angle.

This week be intentional in taking a few steps back from an obstacle in your life.  Choosing to distance yourself may allow you the emotional space to gain a fresh perspective.  New solutions or growing acceptance may be the result of your changed perspective.

I CAN LOOK AT OBSTACLES FROM A FRESH PERSPECTIVE.

Mindfulness Monday

With the abundance of food preparations, recognize that losing weight and over-focusing on the scale will take the joy out of special times with your family.

This week work on being satisfied with yourself as you are- right at this moment.
I am the perfect weight for me
